From The Desk Of:
Dr. Terrie Modesto, CPT, CAC
Chief Thanatologist
Hello and Welcome!
Here at the TEAR Center we are dedicated to providing high quality continuing education and learning resources to both professional and volunteer care providers associated with the issues of dying, death, bereavement, grief or trauma of a disaster. These educational programs are designed to increase the bereavement caregiver’s effectiveness and efficiency on both the individual or community level.
TEAR Center participants are front-line professional and volunteer bereavement caregivers and emergency response providers dedicated to serving in their local communities. These front-line responders are the nurses, social workers, funeral directors, chaplains and hospice professionals and volunteers, and many other bereavement caregivers who are called upon everyday to help individual and families deal with the multitude of problems they face when facing death and loss under extraordinary circumstances.
The TEAR Center also serves emergency response providers such as firefighters, DMORT – Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team and National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) members, police, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics with emergency response online education in the area of death, dying and disaster response. This online training is designed to support and enhance emergency response specialists in their abilities and skills in serving the emergency needs of others. Our goal is to help emergency responders aid others more effectively during disasters and other community traumas.
